Destination Info

Cervinia, one of Italy’s leading ski resorts was originally an old climbing village which, over the years, has grown tremendously into a premier ski destination.

Cervinia has access to Europe’s highest slopes, and due to the fact that it is linked to Zermatt in Switzerland as well as to its neighboring Valtourneche, it ensures a long winter season with guaranteed snow. Cervinia offers a ski in/ski out possibility thanks to the slopes descending from the high altitude of the surrounding mountains and ending right onto the streets of Cervinia, like the worldwide famous Ventina piste, or the Cretaz and CieloAlto slopes, all intertwined and connected by the lifts system.

The ambiance of Cervinia village is relaxed and welcoming. Although it is essentially modern in appearance, the center retains a degree of historic charm, while the impressive array of high mountains surrounding the village adds to the overall Alpine feel.

An important fact worth mentioning regarding Cervinia is that everything is in walking distance, so a car won’t be needed for moving around the village. On the main street you will find an array of clothes, shoes and sport equipment shops, bars and restaurants serving amazing Italian food.

Apres Ski

After a full day on skiing on the Matterhorn, unwind with the many après ski options that Cervinia has to offer. If you are looking for good quality food, then a visit to Lo Baracon dou Tene is worthwhile. Located in the Valtournenche area, this restaurant is a small stone hut and with a south facing terrace offering amazing views. Pricewise it is generally lower than on the main Cervinia slopes – and much lower comparing to Zermatt. If you are into something more high end- Wood restaurant will not disappoint you! Located about a minutes’ walk from Breuil-Cervinia, this attractive bistro focuses on using fresh, local ingredients and the owners’ mentality is offering their guests not only good quality food but a whole experience they will never forget. While Cervinia is not one of the most party- known village, there are many decent options for one to enjoy a drink after a long day on the slopes.

One of the more popular spots for evening après is the Yeti bar, located near the Cretaz chairlift. The Yeti bar offers its guests an early happy hour while they can watch live sports and shows live sports and ski and snowboard films on its big screen. At the Hotel Punta Maquignaz, you will find an exclusive champagne and cocktail bar, the La Champagnerie du Cervin. On the menu you will find an extensive range of champagne, sparkling wines, local Italian wines as well as many cocktail options.

SKI INFO

Cervinia Ski Terrain – Beginners:

Cervinia is known to be an excellent choice if you are just beginning to learn the ropes around skiing. The many long, easy runs and nursery slopes at Plan Maison, cater to the needs of learners and there you will also find the meeting point for the ski school. Quick learners might even be able to tackle the 1200m vertical from Theodulpass on the Swiss border back to the resort within a few days.

Cervinia Ski Terrain – Intermediate:

If you are an intermediate skier, you will find yourself at home whilst in Cervinia. With many red runs you can explore across the glacier and back into the Italian side from the top of the Klein Matterhorn. Weather prohibited, opt for a day of skiing at Zermatt where you will find a selection of different runs and lifts which link the two countries and their ski areas.

Cervinia Ski Terrain – Experts:

For the expert skier although there aren’t that many black runs in numbers, there is still plenty to satisfy their needs. One run that certainly shouldn’t be missed is the Ventina, which sweeps down from the 3,480 metre altitude of the Plateau Rosà to the centre of Breuil-Cervinia. Another one worth mentioning is the Reine Blanche, which runs from the Klein Matterhorn (3883 m) down to Valtournenche (1,524 m.). On the Swiss side there is plenty of challenging routes including some very steep runs under the Furi cable car.

Cervinia Ski Terrain – Snowboarders

The Indian Park in the Plan Maison ski area is considered to be one of the most spectacular snow parks in the Alps. With it being 400m in length and 100m in width, snowboarders and freestyle skiers of all levels will never get bored here! The park features many rails, kickers and jumps while there is a separate smaller park near the village with obstacles more suitable for the younger ones. Don’t forget to check out the tribe parties that are on daily!
